First Baptist Church of Albany is gearing up for a string of summer children’s programs that will extend into August.

Preteen Ministry

A Preteen Ministry started Wednesday, May 3 for students who are finishing sixth grade.

The program will be held 5:30-7:15 p.m. each Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall.

Children’s Choir

A community children’s choir will begin meeting 5:00-6:15 p.m. Wednesdays starting June 7 in the FBC Children’s Big Room.

The choir will present a musical at the end of summer. Parts will be assigned in early June.

Summer SONshine

Also starting June 7, the Summer SONshine program will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Children’s Big Room.

The program, for children who completed first through sixth grades this year, will offer Bible study, music, crafts, games, and field trips.

Cost is $15 per day. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch and a drink.

Space is limited by transportation, so prospective participants are encouraged to sign up early.

Community VBS

A community Vacation Bible School is scheduled for 5:30-8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 30 through Wednesday, Aug. 2, with First Baptist hosting and volunteers from all local churches assisting.

The program is for children age 4 through those who have completed sixth grade.

A Family Night is scheduled for Aug. 2 to conclude the program.

Youth Fundraisers

The FBC youth ministry will have two fundraisers in the Fellowship Hall following church services on Sunday, May 7, to raise money for summer camp.

Youth minister Eduardo San Lucas said pulled pork sandwiches will be served. Donations will be accepted for the meal.

“We’ll start about 12:15 and go until we run out,” San Lucas said. “Everybody is welcome. All of the community is invited.”

Following the lunch, the pie-in-the-face contest will reach its conclusion. Donations have been collected over the past few weeks with five candidates. The one whose can contains the most money will “win” by getting hit in the face with a pie.
