The Albany chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes will take part in the Fields of Faith program Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Graham’s Newton Field.

Fields of Faith is an event where students challenge their peers to read the Bible and follow Jesus Christ.

Local FCA representative Paul Johnston said he expects between 1,600 and 1,800 attendees representing about 10 schools for the Graham program.

The youth group from First Baptist Church of Albany will attend, along with other local students.

“Fields of Faith started about 20-25 years ago, and the first one in the Big Country was held at Shot-well Stadium,” Johnston said. “The whole idea is to put on a youth crusade kind of like the old Billy Graham Crusades. We’ll have a praise band, student testimonies, a speaker, and an invocation.”

Johnston said the events are youth-driven.

“There’ll be a lot of youth involvement,” he said. “It’s focused on sharing the Gospel with students. It has nothing to do with being an athlete or not. We want every student from junior high up to come experience it.”

Johnston said parents are also welcome.

“We want parents to come and see and  experience it,” he said.

More than 50 Fields of Faith events are scheduled in Texas over the next four weeks.

“It’s been a great success,” Johnston said. “We do these all over the United States.”

In addition to the Graham event, programs will also be held around the Big Country at Stamford, Big Spring, Snyder, San Angelo, Stephenville, Abilene’s Shotwell Stadium, and four in the Brownwood area. Dates range from Sept. 27 to Oct. 18.
