Elementary field day set for Friday

Nancy Smith Elementary School will host its annual field day Friday, May 16, beginning at 8:15 a.m. at the Albany High School track. The event will conclude before early dismissal at noon, due to scheduled baseball playoff games that afternoon.

Elementary PE teacher Makinzie Tomascik, who is coordinating the event, said the field day will open with “a quick and fun surprise” from teachers before student events begin.

Running events for Head Start through second grade will take place from approximately 8:30 to 8:45 a.m., followed by field event stations including a water balloon toss, ring toss, hurdles, sack race, tug of war, and a break/free-choice station. These younger students will finish by 10:15 a.m.

Third through sixth graders will begin field events around 8:45 a.m., with activities such as the broad jump contest, softball throw, football throw, and tug of war. Student-selected running events – including the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, and 4x100-meter relay races – will follow and wrap up by 11:45 a.m.

Parents may check out their students directly from the track by signing out with the child’s homeroom teacher.
