Commodities to be distributed

Pick-up dates for the October distribution of the commodity food program are Oct. 4 and Oct. 5, and recipients must pick up their October bags this week in order to be given a special holiday bag next month.

Eligible families in Moran should pick up their food Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Moran City Hall between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.

Albany families can pick up their commodity food Friday, Oct. 5, at the rear door of the JP office from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

“If commodity recipients do not pick up their October bags, they will not be eligible for a Thanksgiving bag,” said Justice of the Peace James Breeden. “We do a Thanksgiving meal in that bag. Because we have to order the items special, we need to have an accurate count.”

The Thanksgiving bags go out on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, along with the regular November commodity bags, according to Breeden.

Recipients who are unable to pick up their food can send a signed and dated note with someone to pick up their commodities for them, rather than letting the items go unclaimed.

Applications for the program are available at the JP office.
