Cauthen returns to Aztec this month
Texas singer-songwriter Paul Cauthen will return to Albany next month, headlining a concert at the Aztec Theater on Friday, May 30. The show marks Cauthen’s third performance at the Aztec since 2023 and follows an unscheduled acoustic set he performed earlier this month at Goodnight Steakhouse and Saloon.
Cauthen, a native of Tyler, has earned national recognition for his blend of country, soul, and rock, along with a commanding stage presence and deep, resonant vocals. His albums, including Room 41 and Country Coming Down, have received critical acclaim for their bold sound and honest songwriting.
The May 24 show will feature several of Cauthen’s collaborators as special guests. Ryan Tyndell, Jeff Hyde, and Bryan Simpson, all established songwriters in the country music scene, are scheduled to perform. The three have worked with Cauthen on songwriting projects and bring their own successful credits, having written for artists such as Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, and The Dixie Chicks.
The Aztec Theater will serve as the host for the concert. Tickets went on sale Wednesday at a cost of $50 for general admission. There will be no reserved seating, and event organizers expect tickets to sell quickly.
Goodnight Steakhouse and Saloon will operate a bar inside the Aztec’s lounge room throughout the evening for attendees.
Cauthen’s relationship with Albany audiences has continued to grow with each performance. His last appearance at the Aztec in 2023 drew a full house, and organizers anticipate another strong turnout for the May 24 concert. In recent months, Cauthen has spent more time in Albany and has spoken highly of the community. Inspired by his experiences here, he even wrote a poem about Albany, describing the town’s impact on him:
“Albany sounds like harmony,
where the big deer run wild
Albany is all I need,
like the mother of a west Texas child,
Albany you set me free and turned back my dial,
relax, believe,
Albany, Texas my heart will never leave,
thanks to the down home folk and the rustling jokes this place will always have a piece of me,
Albany how you sound like harmony,
and that’s heaven in my book”
