CareFest one month out

CareFest, the annual summer music and fundraising event, is set to return Friday, Aug. 16, at Happy Wife Happy Life Weddings & Events, bringing a full evening of live music, local food trucks, and community celebration.

Organizers say ticket sales are higher than ever at this stage, with limited VIP tickets still available online. As in years past, parking remains the biggest factor determining attendance capacity. Attendees are encouraged to carpool when possible to help ease congestion.

This year’s music lineup features a strong group of Texas and Red Dirt country favorites. Kevin Fowler will bring his usual high-energy set, packed with crowd-pleasers like “Beer, Bait & Ammo” and “Hell Yeah, I Like Beer.” Stoney LaRue, known for his gravelly voice and heartfelt lyrics, returns with hits like “Oklahoma Breakdown.” Jason Boland and the Stragglers will add their signature traditional sound, with longtime fan favorites such as “Pearl Snaps” and “Somewhere Down in Texas.” And after backing out last year, Cooder Graw is back on the bill and ready to hit the stage with their rowdy West Texas sound and songs like “Llano Estacado.”

While the event continues to benefit ResourceCare, a new nonprofit—Big Country C.A.R.E.S. (Community Assisting, Rebuilding, Educating, Serving)—was formed to officially host the event and handle liability matters moving forward. The 501(c)(3) organization was spearheaded by Johnny Wade of ResistAll Electric in Breckenridge, who stepped in to help secure the festival’s future.

“Johnny didn’t want to see the event disappear, so he helped create a new path forward,” said board member Mindy Ary.

The Big Country C.A.R.E.S. board includes Johnny Wade, Becky Wade, Mindy Ary, Bryce Asher, Ragan Riley, and Victoria Arriola. Though based in both Albany and Breckenridge, the group hopes to support other communities with similar fundraising events in the future.

Sponsorships are still being accepted, with an Aug. 1 deadline for printing purposes. Food trucks, including returning favorites like Ken’s Chicken and Fish and Melissa’s Cooking for a Cause, will be onsite throughout the event.
