The Bulldog Report - February 27, 2025
By Sam Waller
Moran Independent School District started this week with a safety drill to test security procedures.
During the drill, conducted Monday, Feb. 24, bells and lights in school buildings activated. Also, every computer screen on campus as well as the large screens in every classroom displayed explicit instructions. Different messages appear depending on the current drill or situation.
“It was just a standard evacuation drill,” Moran principal Jo Hise said. “Everybody got out safely. We’re just trying to prepare for the unforeseen.”
Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said the exercise was beneficial.
“I think our security system is the best I’ve ever seen anywhere,” he said.
Prom Night
Moran will hold its prom Saturday, March 1 at the Moran gym. Tickets are $10 and the theme is “Under the Stars.”
Students bringing a guest from outside the school district must fill out a form requesting permission.
Hise said the evening will include finger foods rather than a meal, following the same setup as last week’s Sock Hop.
“We put a tarp down on about a third of the gym floor,” she said. “We’ll have tables and chairs, and the food will be in that area.”
Dr. Seuss Week
Moran ISD will celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss, which is Sunday, March 2, all next week with theme days and activities that celebrate reading.
The fun starts Monday, March 3 with “Cat In The Hat Day.” Students are encouraged to wear stripes and their favorite hat. The theme for Tuesday, March 4 is “Sleep Book” where students can wear cozy pajamas. Wednesday, March 5 will be “Wacky Wednesday” with students in wacky (but comfortable) outfits. The theme for Thursday, March 6 is “Green Eggs And Ham” with students wearing green.

FFA News
Moran FFA student Bradee Stautenberger participated Thursday, Feb. 20 in the calf scramble at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. For the first time in three tries, the sophomore failed to catch a calf after successful runs at Fort Worth and San Angelo. After being dragged, kicked and trampled, she was sent to the medical tent by event staff.
“She got some scrapes and bumps on her chin and forehead,” Denson said.
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, Moran teams competed in vet tech and horse judging at the Justin Northwest ISD contest, which was held in Denton. Results will be reported next week.
