Band students to perform in year-end concert
The Albany ISD band program will present its annual spring concert Thursday, May 15, at 6 p.m. in the Albany High School gymnasium.
Director of bands Jessica Watkins said this year’s format will feature three groups – sixth grade, seventh grade, and high school – set up in one large band. Each group will perform individually, and all will join together to close the concert with a combined piece.
The sixth grade band will perform “Bandroom Boogie” and “Big Beat Boogie.”
Seventh grade will play “Colossus” and “Aftershock.”
The high school band will perform “Spania,” “Defying Gravity,” “Aggressivo,” and the first movement of their fall 2025 marching show.
All three bands will conclude the program with “Mechanical Monsters.”
Musicianship awards will be presented to students from each group during the event.
Watkins also stated that the John Philip Sousa Award was presented to junior Rowdy New earlier this week at the academic banquet.
“We will be revealing the 2025 marching show Thursday night, as well as giving out the end-of-year band awards,” Watkins said.
