Band begins rehearsals

Members of the Ragin’ Red Band started their summer practices on Monday, Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

Practice will continue through this week at 6:30 p.m., but rehearsal times for Aug. 12-16 have not yet been planned. Those times will be announced later this week, according to new band director Richard Murrow.

Band members and parents are able to join a “remind group chat” in order to get updates for the band.

“Text @albanyra to 81010 and you will receive a message confirming that you have joined,” said Murrow.

Band members are encouraged to sign up for the group texts in order to receive important information about upcoming rehearsals, practice times, etc. Members can also ask questions via the chat group.

“The band roster is not official yet, but the list I was given last week has 36 students signed up,” Murrow said.

The new director encouraged members to attend every practice between now and the beginning of classes, noting that time is limited before the group has to present its first halftime show.

The football regular season opens in Colorado City on Friday, Aug. 30 with the Lions taking on the Wolves at 7:30 p.m.

A group picture of the band will be taken during the first week of school. The photograph will be published in the 2019 football program, which is for sale at all home football games.
