Albany Classic Car Show set for this weekend

By Melinda L. Lucas

After being rained out in April, the 18th annual Albany Classic Car Show is getting a second shot this Saturday, May 10 – and organizers are ready to roll.

Volunteer coordinator Robert Snyder remains optimistic about the rescheduled event.

“We’re hoping for the kind of weather that makes classic car owners want to get out and show off their rides,” Snyder said. “If it rains again, I’ll keep start asking local ranchers for donations – guaranteed tank water!”

The weekend kicks off Friday, May 9, with a community hamburger supper in Bank Park at 6 p.m., known as the “Burger Burn.” Proceeds will support the car show.

The traditional burn-out is set to follow around 6:30 p.m., and while there’s no formal cruise night, Snyder encouraged car enthusiasts to take their classics for a drive through town.

Saturday’s main event begins with vehicle registration from 8 to 11 a.m. Entry is $20 per vehicle, and more than 25 categories will be judged. Awards include Best of Show and People’s Choice in both car and truck divisions – a distinction Snyder said continues to grow in popularity.

“People like that we recognize trucks separately, and the People’s Choice trophies always mean a lot,” he said.

Cars will be staged along South First Street near Bank Park, with overflow space available around the corner on Jacobs St. if needed. The event is open to antiques, hot rods, customs, trucks and more.

The awards ceremony is expected between 2:30 and 3 p.m. Saturday. Attendees can enjoy local food vendors, and participants will receive door prizes and goodie bags provided by Eagle Auto throughout the day. Trophies and plaques are sponsored by Clear Fork Bank.
