MISD hosts basketball tourney Dec. 1-3

The Moran Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs get to spend a weekend at home as they host the Moran Holiday Tournament Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 1-3.

After taking last week off for Thanksgiving break, Moran resumed play Tuesday, Nov. 29, with boys and girls games at Paint Rock. Results will be reported next week.

Both teams will face Trent on Thursday in the first round of the tournament. The girls will start at 6:00 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.

“For us as a team, we’re just looking to get better every game,” Lady Bulldogs coach John Hughes said. “That’s the thing for boys and for girls. Our first games on Thursday both should be winnable games for us; then it becomes the luck of the draw after that.”

Teams from Ranger, Abilene TLCA, Paint Creek, Brookesmith, Blanket, and Strawn will also compete in the tourney. Games begin at 9:00 a.m. each day.

Teams are guaranteed three games for the weekend.

The girls championship game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Saturday with the boys final to follow.

Junior High

The Moran Junior High boys basketball teams combined efforts for one game Monday, Nov. 28 at May, falling 24-8.

Moran trailed 5-2 after one quarter with May scoring the only basket of the second quarter to lead 7-2 at halftime. The Bulldogs kept pace in the third quarter as both teams scored four points before May closed the game with a 13-2 edge in the fourth quarter.

Landon Moreno led Moran with six points, with Garrett Hamilton scoring two.

Moran will host Eula for two games starting at 6:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, before hosting Baird on Monday, Dec. 12 in the final outing before the Christmas break.
