Reactivating the county-wide burn ban and accepting a quote for employee health insurance were the two major items of discussion in a brief session on Monday morning of the Shackelford County commissioners.

Only three voting members were present, including county judge John Viertel and commissioners Cody Jordan and Ace Reames.

Burn Ban

In light of the extremely high temperatures of the previous week, county officials opted to activate a county-wide burn ban, anticipating that wildfire dangers are increasing with the amount of “fuel” in pastureland.

The ban will automatically be in effect for 90 days unless more action is taken.

Health Insurance

On the recommendation of treasurer Tammy Brown, the commissioners voted to continue health coverage with TAC HEBP, with a 6% increase in the renewal.

The deductible will remain at $1,200.
