Hospital Board

Shackelford County Hospital District board members were in closed session for much of their three-hour meeting time on Monday, June 19 concerning an appeal by a former employee about his termination.
New board member Maggie Viertel, who was approved at the May meeting, was sworn in at the beginning of Monday’s session.
Employee Appeal
Kent Stewart, who worked for the local EMS, presented his appeal in closed session with the district’s legal counsel John Montgomery also present.
Board president Jo Ann Estridge said after the meeting that Stewart was terminated for “his failure to follow policy procedures,” and that “more interviews” are planned before any action is taken.
EMS director Mateo Millan and district administrator Brandi Green both met with the directors during the closed part of the meeting.
“We are currently investigating this matter,” Estridge said on Tuesday.
A special session is planned on June 26 to continue the inquiry.
Employee Insurance
Summer Powers with the Marsh McLennan Agency handed out quotes for several different types of employee coverage, and although board members seem to favor staying with the current provider, that decision will probably be made at next week’s meeting.
