Funds needed for Day Camp

ResourceCare summer day camp is scheduled to take place from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on weekdays from July 8 through July 26, and parents who did not register their children during last week’s sign up period need to do so before the camp starts.
“We will no longer be accepting registration forms once camp has started,” said program assistant Ragan Riley. “We have additional paperwork that is being required by the State, and we need to make sure everything is completed 100 percent!”
According to Riley, anyone still needing to sign up can go to the Youth Center on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday between 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. to get registered or contact ResourceCare at 325-762-2447 to schedule an alternate time.
However, children must be registered before the camp starts on July 8.
The day camp has been held annually since 1998, when 15 kids participated in the program designed to help reduce youth crime rate in Albany during the summer months by providing students with a safe place, nutritious food, structured activities, and educational experiences during part of their summer vacation.
ResourceCare now hires about 40 Albany High School students during the month of July to help run the camp and supervise over 200 campers.
This camp is made possible by the United Way of Abilene, Albany Chest, local contributions, and fundraising events including CareFest in the fall, bake sales throughout the year, and most recently, work at the Fandangle grounds by Riley and others.
“ResourceCare helped out Fandangle by putting out almost 1,500 chairs for all the attendees,” said Riley. “The Fandangle will donate $500 to the day camp in return.”
Contributions can be mailed to ResourceCare, ATTN: Day Camp, PO Box 2435, Albany, TX 76430.
Donations of supplies, including water, sunscreen, Fruit Loops, cornstarch, large marshmallows, pretzels, Gold Fish, popcorn, cookies, Kool-Aid mix, and arts and crafts supplies, can be delivered to the ResourceCare front desk or picked up by request.
