Exhibitors place at Houston show

Shackelford County 4-Her Grace Fry placed first in the junior horse judging Monday, March 7 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, highlighting a busy week for local 4-H and FFA members
Fellow 4-H member Luke Smith placed second with his barrow on Sunday, March 13 in the middleweight Hampshire class.
Faith Fry finished 12th in the senior age group of the horse judging competition.
Jake Hale exhibited a pen of three commercial steers. Hale’s cattle graded at Select 2, Choice 2, and Choice 3. In addition to points scored by the animals, Hale’s entry was judged on a written test, interview skills, a record book, meat ID and quiz, closeout, cost per pound of gain, average daily gain, and feed conversion.
FFA members exhibiting placing animals were Cooper Edgar (seventh with a Hampshire barrow), Gracie Price (ninth with a Maine-Anjou heifer) and Pepper Martin (20th with a lamb).
Also exhibiting hogs were Chelsy Parsons, Cash Edgar, Laithe Leech, and Leddie Leech.
Several FFA students were scheduled to show animals this week. Colter Edgar, Callan Edgar, Tatum Grady, Tye Edgar, and Paige Price were exhibiting swine. Kenzie Neve, Kam Browning, Gracie Price, and Hattie Braly have steers entered.
