Weekly lunches get underway

The Feed Store served the first junior and senior Tuesday lunch of the new school year this Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Feed Store executive director Tisha Wilkins said 45 students were served this week.

“We had a decent turnout, but I think more will come next week,” Wilkins said.

The Tuesday lunches are served in rotation by local churches in the community.

Board members and staff of the Feed Store will serve all of the September lunches before Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church takes over for October.

“Even with the schedule in place, we still need more volunteers to fill in some weeks,” Wilkins added.

Volunteers typically provide and prepare food for all enrolled juniors and seniors.

“The Feed Store provides paper goods for all of the meals,” Wilkins said. “We also can help with some of the cost of the food if needed, and our youth leaders are on hand to help with clean-up.”

Currently, there are 69 junior and senior students enrolled at Albany High School.

Wilkins encourages all students to come get a free meal at lunch every Tuesday from 12:10 to 12:45 p.m. during the school year.
