Weekly lunches get underway
By Kathy Thomson
The Feed Store served the first junior/senior Tuesday lunch of the new school year this Tuesday, Aug. 20, and the non-denominational youth ministry executive director Tisha Wilkins said that she was pleased with the turnout.
“We had 57 students, which was great!” Wilkins said. “We have the churches down with the same schedule as before, but we do have some open weeks that we would like to get filled.”
Volunteers typically provide and prepare food for up to 82 juniors and seniors.
“The Feed Store provides the paper goods,” the director said. “We can help with some of the cost of the food if needed, and our youth ministers are on hand to help with serving and clean up.”
She added that commitments don’t have to be for an entire month.
“If you or your group want to help, I can put you down for one week, or however many times you want to do it,” said Wilkins.
There are currently 82 junior and senior students enrolled at Albany High School, and Wilkins encouraged all of them to come to the free meals.
“If anyone needs transportation here, there are lots of people coming,” Wilkins said. “Just ask and someone will give you a ride.”
