Valentines to raise Project Grad funds

Time is running out to purchase special gifts and/or handmade Oreo© truffles from Project Graduation’s Valentine’s Day fundraiser.

“Orders for Valentine gifts need to be turned in by Thursday, Jan. 31, so we can get everything here before Valentine’s Day,” organizer Tisha Wilkins said. “Truffles need to be ordered by Feb. 5, so we can have them ready for students to dip those on Feb. 9.”

Flyers were sent to both Albany schools. The various Valentine gift items vary in price from $1 up to $8, while the hand-dipped truffles are $3 for six or $6 for a dozen.

“We will have truffles dipped in milk chocolate, white chocolate, or mixed,” Wilkins said. “The purchased items will be delivered to the homeroom of the student on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 14.”

Those wishing to place non-student orders can call Wilkins at 325-660-7443 to arrange for order and delivery.

Project Graduation auctioned off four desserts at a quickly organized fundraiser that took place in the high school gym between basketball games last Friday.

“It went well,” said Wilkins, “so we’re planning to do another dessert auction next Tuesday at the home basketball games, between the two varsity matches.”

The bouts between Albany and Haskell on Tuesday, Feb. 5, are set to start at 4:00 p.m. with the junior varsity girls first, then the JV boys before the Lady Lions take the court at around 6:30 p.m. followed by the Lions at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Money raised by Project Graduation is used to fund the traditional after-graduation alcohol-free and drug-free party for members of the senior class.
