Trick or Treat

Traditionally, trick or treating takes place on Oct. 31, and participating downtown Albany store owners will once again offer costumed local students and pre-schoolers a safe place to show off their cute outfits and solicit candy donations on Halloween.

According to Chamber of Commerce office manager Mary Beth Jones, downtown merchants will be handing out candy from 3:00 until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Since there is not a city-wide Trunk or Treat event planned this year, local merchants have invited others who wish to hand out candy to join them, and several groups are planning to be downtown or at the Bank Park.

In addition, trick or treaters can visit the Shackelford County Law Enforcement Center, Kindred at Home, First Financial Bank, Shackelford County Appraisal District, King and Robertson Insurance, Shackelford County Library, Albany News, Prairie Star, ResourceCare, Stasney’s Well Service, Brookshire’s, and Los Cazadores during the same time frame.

“Let’s line the streets and make some kiddos smile,” said Jones. “Join us to spread the cheer. We’d love to have you.”

Shackelford County Courthouse employees will not be participating this year because early voting for the Nov. 5 election is being conducted on the first floor of the Courthouse, according to county judge Robert Skelton.

“Since early voting will be going on, we’ll have to pass,” he said.
