With Project Graduation 2020 cancelled due to uncertainties surrounding the coronavirus shutdown, a drawing was held this week to choose recipients for the traditional Task Force scholarships.

Also, Project Graduation organizers have announced that the money raised for the celebration will now be divided among each senior and handed out at graduation in the form a gift card.

“We are glad the fundraising started early in the school year so we were able to gift all of the seniors with something,” said Tammy Clark, senior parent and Project Graduation cochair. “With all that has gone on, we hope that this gift blesses them all. They worked hard but did not get to continue their fundraising efforts and ultimately a night of fun for Project Graduation. We are sad we did not get to see those plans through.”

Recipients for scholarships normally received at Project Graduation from Albany Task Force on Drug and Alcohol Abuse have been drawn and will be awarded at graduation to one senior boy and one senior girl.

The drawing took place at the Albany News, an impartial location, on May 18. Task Force secretary Charlotte Taggart and a senior parent conducted the drawing, with witnesses present.

Taggart said each student will receive $500 towards higher education, a trade school, or a future in the military.

“We have been able to present these scholarships through donations since 1988,” Taggart said. “We are glad to see that the amount has grown through the years from $250 each to $500 each.”
