The 29th annual See You at the Pole is set for Wednesday, Sept. 26, with separate events planned for local elementary and secondary students.

The 2019 theme is “if...”

The scripture selected for 2019 is 2 Chronicles 7:14, If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

See You at the Pole, a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event, is a global movement of prayer where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God.

“See You at the Pole is for everyone, not just one church or kids in a particular youth group,” Feed Store executive director Tisha Wilkins said. “This event is for all kids, including kids who don’t regularly go to church.”

AHS/AJHS Event

The high school and junior high participants will gather at 7:15 a.m at the high school flag pole for a time of worship, praise, and a student-led prayer on the morning of the nationwide program.

“Spencer Newsom and I will bring donuts and refreshments for the students,” said First Baptist Church youth minister Campbell Terry,“but it will be a student led morning of prayer.”

Adults can stand near the young people, but the prayer time is supposed to be completely student led.

Elementary Event

A separate event is being planned for elementary students. Parents and other adults may also participate.

Elementary students from kindergarten age through sixth grade are invited to eat breakfast at the Albany Church of Christ, beginning at 7:00 a.m. After breakfast, they will walk to Nancy Smith Elementary School, chaperoned by a number of adults.

Upon arrival at the school around 7:40 a.m., the children will pray around the NSES flagpole. Students who don’t wish to eat breakfast may join the group at that time.

Moran ISD

Moran students are planning a See You at the Pole event at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Several members of the First Baptist Church of Moran will be in attendance, according to member Jo Hise.

Saw You at the Pole

There will be a follow-up event sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes again this year.

“Saw You at the Pole” will be held next Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at The Feed Store in Albany, and is expected to include a speaker, music, student guests from neighboring towns, and free hot dogs.

Students from sixth grade up through high school are all invited to “Saw You at the Pole,” according to FCA representative Paul Johnston.

An estimated one million students gather on the fourth Wednesday in September to pray at their school flagpole. Students in more than 64 countries have participated.
