Children at Nancy Smith Elementary School will join others around the nation observing Read Across America Day next Monday, March 2.

Read Across America Day was inaugurated in 1998 by the National Education Association, and is held every year in early March.

“The day is designed to help motivate kids to read, to bring the joys of reading to students of all ages, and to make all children feel valued and welcome,” said local elementary teacher Kristie Smith. “It is cele-brated annually on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March 2. We thought it would be fun to celebrate this day at NSES by bringing in guest readers to each classroom.”

Community members have volunteered to read aloud to children in each of the various classrooms at NSES on Monday morning.
