Students to compete at practice meet

Sixteen Albany students are travelling to Stamford for an academic invitational practice meet this Saturday, Feb. 23, and according to UIL coordinator Rick Davis, they could bring home several ribbons even though scheduling conflicts limited the number of students who could participate.

“We have some students who will not be able to attend this meet because of other school activities going on at the same time on Saturday,” said Davis. “Some of the students are able to work that out, and I really appreciate the coaches working with us. Many of the students who are attending are competing in multiple events.”

The 16 students are covering 43 entries.

“The math students have been working with me for an hour on Thursday evenings, and I know other groups have also been preparing,” said Davis. “It’s a real treat to work with students who are eager to learn and improve. I hope they will bring home even more ribbons than last time.”

Representing Albany at the UIL practice meet in Stamford this Saturday are Addison Asher, Max Balliew, Sidney Bartee, Sarah Cotter, Kade Everitt, Ty Everitt, Jillian Guinn, and Luke Ivy.

Also competing for AHS are Alayna Koemel, Caroline Masters, Gregori Mikeska, Brooke Neece, Chris Rivera, Taylor Scott, Tana Thompson, and Hannah Trail.

The district meet is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, in Hawley.
