Students attend lake retreat

The Feed Store’s final student events of the summer include last weekend’s lake retreat, next Monday’s pool party, and the Back to School Bash on Thursday, Aug. 9. Then the non-denominational youth ministry will take a short break before plunging into a new school year of activities.

The 2018 Lake Retreat was the “best weekend ever,” according to youth minister Ashlee Herron.

“So many memories and friendships were made,” she said. “God moved beautifully through the hearts of these amazing students! They are the best teenagers in the world!”

Twenty-nine junior high and senior high students went on the weekend retreat to the Trails’ place on Hubbard Creek Lake.

“We got there late on Friday, and some went swimming right away,” youth minister Levi Herron said. “Several parents brought over boats on Saturday, and we had a great time swimming, boating, wake boarding, and tubing! It was a really good, awesome retreat.”

He said that in addition to listening to an inspirational speaker, the group spent time every evening and morning in worship and Bible study.

“We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped out,” Ashlee Herron said. “Because of the generosity of the people in this community, we had a free place to stay, food to eat that was prepared and served by loving hands, boats and tubes and wake boards to have a blast with, tents and canopies, transportation, and so much more! These kids were able to come out and experience God in a really amazing way!”

Pool Parties

The Feed Store has rented the city pool from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, for a pool party that will be open to both the junior high and senior high students.

According to Levi Herron, The Feed Store will also take part in the Chamber of Commerce sponsored Back-to-School Bash on Thursday, Aug. 9.

“We plan to be involved,” he said. “But I still need to talk to Mary Beth (Jones) to figure out exactly what we will be doing.”

The Chamber office manager and event coordinator is currently out of the office, and is expected to return on Monday to finish organizing the event.

Fall Plans

School starts on Aug. 16, and The Feed Store plans to serve lunch to junior and senior students on Tuesday, Aug. 21, according to Levi Herron.

Weekly high school and junior high fellowships will not meet the first week, but will begin before the end of the month.

High School Merge meets on Mondays at 6:45 p.m. starting on Aug. 27.

Junior High Connect is scheduled to take place on Tuesdays, beginning on Aug. 28, starting right after school until 5:30 p.m.
