Members of the Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Association will meet on Tuesday, April 9 for a general meeting to evaluate the 2019 show, consider any proposed rule changes, and address any concerns that have been brought to the attention of the Association.

The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the high school agriculture building.

Final preparations for the Buyer-Seller Banquet, scheduled for Saturday, April 6, will also be addressed at the meeting.

“Everyone involved in the stock show as well as those who would like to be involved and help the students are all welcome to come,” said Albany FFA instructor Chris Beard. “The public is invited to attend. Following the open meeting, there will be a closed session with board members and officers.”

Beard added that items expected on the agenda are election of officers, proposed rule changes for the 2020 show, and fundraiser events.

Two candidates will be elected to four-year terms on the eight-member board of directors.

Exhibitor Deadlines

“FFA and 4-H members who sold animals in the sale need to have their thank you letters written, addressed, stamped, and turned in by March 29,” said Beard. “They need to have cleaned the pens they used at the ag barn by April 1.”

Albany 4-H and FFA students should turn in their completed notes, stamped and ready to be mailed, to either Beard or county agent Michaela Bradford.

Moran students can turn in their thank you letters to Moran ag teacher Matthew Hise.

Checks will not be issued to exhibitors until they have their thank you notes verified and have paid any bills owed to the stock show, concession stand, 4-H, or FFA, according to Beard.

Exhibitors who have not cleaned their pens by the deadline will have a pen cleanup fee of $25 deducted from their stock show check.

Matthews Scholarship

Seniors who participated in the stock show and wish to be considered for the Watt Matthews scholarship must have their applications turned in to Beard by March 29.

The winner or winners of the scholarship are announced at the Buyer-Seller Banquet from among the seniors who applied.

Buyer-Seller Banquet

The annual Buyer-Seller Banquet will be held at the Nancy Smith Elementary School cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.

“All exhibitor families are asked to bring one vegetable dish and one dessert dish to the banquet,” reminded Beard.
