State testing to start April 9

All third through 12th grade students attending public schools in Texas take the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) and End of Course (EOC) tests in the spring.

The testing program is based on state curriculum standards in core subjects including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.

The tests are designed to measure what students have learned, and whether or not they are ready for the next grade. 

Schedule

This year the STAAR testing occurs on April 9-12, and May 6-17. 

School districts have some flexibility in scheduling the tests and Albany ISD testing coordinators have planned for the following dates:

•April 9 – Grades 4 and 7 Writing; Grades 5 and 8 Math

•April 10 – Grades 5 and 8 Reading

•April 12 – STAAR make-up tests

•May 13 – Grades 3, 4, 6, and 7 Math, Retest Grades 5 and 8 Math

•May 14 – Grades 3, 4, 6, and 7 Reading, Retest Grades 5 and 8 Reading

•May 15 – Grades 5 and 8 Science

•May 16 – Grade 8 Social Studies

•May 17 – STAAR make-up tests

EOC exams take place April 9 and 11, and May 7-8.
