State of the School addressed

Albany News

About three dozen local parents, citizens, and Albany ISD staff members gathered in the Aztec Theater reception room on Monday night for an hour-long “State of the School” presentation by AISD administrators.

Superintendent Jonathan Scott explained that as a Title I school, the Albany district has to follow certain guilelines that include community involvement.

“This school belongs to you, and we want to be sure we work as a team to help develop plans that will best serve our students,” said Scott.

Secondary counselor Jenny Scott noted that Albany will be a test center for several SAT tests this year, and that a “school day test” will be administered Oct. 16.

She also reviewed how the “Senior Remind” app works and told parents they could also sign up for it.

Elementary counselor Susie Beard explained the ongoing mentoring program at NSES and asked for more local adults to get involved.

Student services coordinator Leigh Lowe went over the district’s “report card” numbers, clarifying parts of the complex system and briefly commenting on strategies that are being developed to improve scores.

Lowe and Jonathan Scott both emphasized that “growth” and “awareness” are key words in Albany ISD’s continued success, along with community “collaboration.”

“We need you to tell kids that you’re watching them, that you’re aware of how they’re doing, and then encourage them to do better,” said Lowe.
