Special Easter services planned

Easter, or Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian holiday that celebrates Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, and many churches hold special services on that Sunday and during Holy Week, the days leading up to His crucifixion.

The Ministerial Alliance sponsored community-wide special service for Holy Week was held last night at the Aztec Theater.

The Alliance will also sponsor its traditional community-wide SonRise service on Easter morning, April 21.

Special services scheduled during the next few days include the following.

Maundy Thursday

First Christian Church and Trinity Lutheran Church will each hold a Maundy Thursday service on April 18, at 7:00 p.m.

Good Friday

The Lutheran church will hold services at 7:00 p.m. on Good Friday.

The Catholic Church will have their final Lenten Stations of the Cross at 5:00 p.m. this Friday, April 19, followed by the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 5:30 p.m.

SonRise Service

The Albany Ministerial Alliance sponsored Community Easter SonRise Service will once again be held at the Stasney Ranch at 7:30 a.m., inside or just outside of the cook shack, depending on the weather conditions.

The service will overlook the lake at the ranch headquarters, so that attendees can enjoy the sunrise over the water.

The FUMC Women will provide breakfast for everyone from 7:00 a.m. until the service starts at 7:30 a.m.

Tim Trimble of First Methodist Church will lead the 7:30 a.m. SonRise service on Easter Sunday morning, April 21.

Albany residents of all denominations are urged to participate in the service, which will conclude well before Sunday School classes and morning services begin within their own congregations.

Other Easter Services

An Easter sunrise service is scheduled to be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, April 21. Breakfast will be served in the Lutheran church fellowship hall at 9:30 a.m. Worship service on Easter will be at the regular time of 10:30 a.m., with a children’s Easter egg hunt to follow. Visitors are welcome.

The Catholic church will have Sunday Mass at the usual time of 8:30 a.m. on April 21, Easter morning.

Attendees at First Christian Church on Easter morning will have the opportunity to participate in a special flowering of the cross at the regular Sunday worship time of 11:00 a.m. The service will include special music. An Easter egg hunt will follow the service.

First United Methodist Church will flower the cross at their 11:00 a.m. worship service on Easter Sunday.

Matthews Memorial will have a children’s egg hunt and a time for fellowship for the adults immediately following their 11:00 a.m. Easter morning service.

Albany Pentecostal pastor Lee Hail has invited everyone to the church’s Resurrection Sunday service at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.

The service will include the sign team, a drama, words from the pastor, and special songs. There will also be an Easter meal, door prizes, and an egg hunt.

Other local congregations will hold services as usual.
