Show barn workday set Saturday

The 2019 Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Association show is set for Jan. 31 through Feb. 2, and stock show exhibitors need to help clean up and prepare the county show barn’s facilities this Saturday, Jan. 19, starting at 8:30 a.m.

“Please bring shovels, hoes, rakes, brooms, and other clean-up tools,” said FFA advisor Chris Beard. “We will pick up any trash, sweep and clean up the bleachers and the barn, and set up the pens. It is the same as last year, except that we are starting a half hour later, at 8:30 a.m.”

Exhibitors are expected to participate.

Parents and other volunteers are welcome and encouraged to assist in preparing the facilities for the upcoming event.

“If everyone shows up, it only takes about an hour,” said Beard.

Clipping of the animals will also take place in the near future.

“We will start trimming animals next week, depending on the weather,” said Beard.

Stock Show Funding

Around $14,000 had been raised toward the annual Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Show as of Monday, Jan. 14, according to SCYLA treasurer Molly Cauble.

“We are only at about 60 percent of where we were last year at this time,” Cauble said. “It usually takes $18,000 to $20,000 to put on the show, and funds are also needed for the bidders pool.”

Contributions and monies raised from the annual pig sale are used to provide ribbons, belt buckles, show supplies, premium monies, and cover other expenses associated with holding the county show.

Contributions may be mailed to the Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Association, Attn: Molly Cauble, P.O. Box 2439, Albany, Texas. Donations may also be left with tellers at First National Bank or First Financial Bank.

All donation checks are tax deductible and should be made payable to the Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Show.
