Scouts run 2019 Derby

Landon Herrell took first place in the Albany Cub Scouts’ annual Pinewood Derby race held at the Youth Center on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Cubmaster John Lucas was unable to be at the event, so Ricky and Kenisha Lucas, along with Jayden Lucas and Damian Little from Boy Scout Troop 255, helped set up the 36-foot aluminum track and run the race.

“Since only four Cub Scouts showed up for the race, we just ran an overall double elimination race instead of racing by individual Dens, and then the overall,” said committee chair Teri Lucas.

Herrell, a member of the Wolf Den, took home the first place medal for the second year in a row.

Judson Rogers from the Webelos Den won second and Kingston Balliew from the Lion Den took third.

Landon Edwards, also a member of the Wolf Den, finished fourth.

“I want to thank everyone who helped with setting up and taking down the race track, putting out chairs, roping off the track, and helping during the race,” said Teri Lucas.
