Shackelford County ResourceCare Community Health Center will be awarded $274,984 for COVID-19 testing.

This funding is in addition to the $753,000 in coronavirus relief funds awarded to ResourceCare last month.

ResourceCare executive director Meagan Marshall said the new funding announced last week will apply toward expansion of COVID-19 testing.

“At this time, we plan to use the funds for COVID tests, supplies, and PPE,” Marshall said. “We have six sites, and the funds will be divided among them based on need. Albany is one of our smaller sites, so we would expect 12 percent of the funds to be allocated to the Albany location.”

The second funding comes from the  $31,137,693 that was awarded to Texas by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on May 7.

President Trump originally signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act into law on Friday, March 27. This piece of legislation makes support for local health centers available immediately.

ResouceCare is a local health facility and outreach service that began in Albany more than 25 years ago but has expanded to include facilities in several surrounding counties.
