Red Steagall tapes show in Albany

Singer, rancher, poet, talk show host, songwriter, actor, author, musician, and native Texan Red Steagall was in Albany last week on Wednesday, Oct. 31, to film a segment about the Fort Griffin Fandangle for his TV show.

“We had planned to maybe go out to the Fandangle grounds and pull out the stagecoach and a few other props,” said Fandangle Association president Steve Waller. “But when Steagall was here, the rain was pouring down so hard there was no way that we could film outside. We went to the Old Jail instead, and they filmed the interviews in the archives building.”

Steagall watched the video Making a Difference to learn more about Robert E. Nail and the Fort Griffin Fandangle before his crew started shooting.

“Red began by talking about the history of the Fandangle and how it started as a high school play,” said local resident Clifford Teinert, who is a personal friend of Steagall’s. “Then he interviewed me and Steve.”

Both Teinert and Waller shared memories accumulated over many years of performing.

Waller also informed the TV audience how they could purchase tickets to the summer show.

“I think it will turn out to be a great show and great PR for the Fandangle,” said Waller.

The segment was taped for Steagall’s TV show, ‘Red Steagall Is Somewhere West of Wall Street’ that airs on RFD TV on Mondays at 8:30 p.m. Central Standard Time.

The segment filmed in Albany last week is expected to be broadcast sometime in May of 2019, according to Steagall’s administrative assistant Debbie Bowman.
