Reception to honor Shane Fields

A retirement reception is set for Sunday, Aug. 12 for Supt. Shane Fields and the public is urged to attend.

The event will be hosted by members of the Albany ISD board of trustees.

Fields retired as superintendent effective July 2 to accept the position of executive director of the Region 14 Education Service Center in Abilene. He is replacing another former Albany superintendent, Ronnie Kincaid, who is retiring at the end of August.

The reception will be held at the Whitney Theatre in Albany from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Fields served as Albany’s superintendent for the past 16 years. He began his teaching career in Lubbock, where he taught four years. He moved into administration in Slaton as an assistant principal for two years before serving as assistant director of a special education coop in the Lubbock area.

Fields then held the job as principal for one year in Southland, moving up to superintendent at Southland for three years before accepting the Albany job.

Fields will continue to live in Albany and commute. His wife, Melissa, will keep teaching at Nancy Smith Elementary.

The couple has two children, Chandler, a senior at TCU, and Chloe, a freshman at Texas Tech.

“We are still Lions and Lady Lions at heart, and we want to continue to serve Albany in whatever capacity we can,” Fields said.
