The Old Jail Art Center is hosting two special events this Christmas season including free puppet shows and inexpensive gift-making opportunities.

Puppet Shows

Holiday marionette shows will be presented by the master puppeteers from Peeler-Rose Productions on Tuesday, Dec. 4, and Wednesday, Dec. 5.

“Beloved artists Dan Peeler and Charlie Rose will present, for the 33rd year, a lovely repertoire of puppet performances to Christmas classics,” said education director Erin Whitmore. “Bring the whole family and enjoy one of our annual holiday marionette shows.”

Everyone, no matter their age, is invited to attend the free event, according to Whitmore.

The puppet shows are scheduled to take place at 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Shows will also be given at 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Gift Make and Take

The OJAC will host several days of Drop-in Holiday Gift Workshops and everyone is invited to attend, receive instruction, enjoy light refreshments, and make a variety of affordable, creative, and modern handmade gifts they would want to receive.

The drop-in workshops will be available from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. every day from Tuesday, Dec. 11 through Friday, Dec. 14.

Participants are only charged for the projects they make, with costs from $1 to $10 per item.

“No craft or art experience is needed,” said Whitmore. “We will teach you and provide you with all the materials that you need!”

A free wrapping station is also provided.
