Albany High School juniors and seniors will crown the 2019 prom queen and king during the Junior-Senior Prom to be held Saturday, March 23, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Whitney Theatre in downtown Albany.

The dance, hosted by the junior class and chaperoned by the junior class sponsors, is open to AHS juniors, seniors, and their dates.

Dates have to be enrolled in a high school, but can be from other high schools with prior approval by principal Edward Morales.

Seniors get in free, and juniors who have worked the concession stand also get in free. Tickets are required for others and are available in advance in the high school office for $15 or can be purchased for $20 at the door.

The junior class and its sponsors have arranged for decorations, food, and music.

The theme for this year’s event is “Hollywood,” and the color scheme for decorations will be red, black, and gold, according to junior class sponsor Susie Beard.

Like recent years, students who leave the party will not be allowed to return.

Light refreshments and non-alcoholic drinks will be available at the dance.

“They decided on movie night types of refreshments,” said Beard. “There will be candy, popcorn, cookies, water, and lemonade.”

Music will be played by the same disc jockey from Abilene that played the music at last year’s prom.

Senior Queen and King candidates were selected this week, and the winners will be crowned late in the evening, according to Beard.
