Project Grad fundraisers planned

Albany High School seniors are still eight months away from earning their diplomas, but fundraising for the traditional after commencement Project Graduation party is already underway.

“We have 44 seniors this year,” said Tammy Clark, one of the parents who is helping to coordinate the events. “That’s a large class, so we are trying to get a jump with Project Graduation. We want to be able to make it a great event for our seniors.”

The Albany High School Class of 2020 hosted a garage sale and bake sale during the city-wide garage sale earlier this month, and other projects are in the works.

“We are doing ‘Kiss the Pig’ and are about to start on some raffles and a holiday shirt sale,” said Clark. “We had seven or eight families that donated all kinds of things for our garage sale. We raised about $1,500, and we didn’t get everything sold.”

Clark said that they may host another garage sale in the future, and are looking at other fundraising ideas as well.

Project Graduation, an all-night drug and alcohol-free party following commencement exercises, has been an annual tradition in Albany since 1988.

The event is officially sponsored by the Albany Drug and Alcohol Task Force, but is planned and coordinated by parents of seniors.
