Physicals available

Students who still need school physicals can make an appointment with one of two local clinics, including band students who have not previously been required to have exams.

Both the Shackelford County Health Clinic and ResourceCare charge $25 for a school physical, and appointments are needed at both clinics.

Athletes who did not take advantage of the school sponsored physicals in May are expected to pay for the exam, with one exception.

Marching band students that still need to complete a pre-participation physical will have their exam cost covered by the district this year.

This is the first time that the UIL has required pre-participation physicals for band members, so those students were unaware that they needed school physicals when the exams were offered for free in May.

“There are only a few students involved who haven’t already had physicals, and we have provided a list of them to each of the two local clinics,” said secondary principal Edward Morales. “The school will cover the cost of the students enrolled in band to obtain the school physical at either of the two local clinics.”

Many of the band students already had physicals due to their involvement in local sports programs.

High school volleyball and football practices are already underway, but athletes who are participating in other sports throughout the school year, including junior high students, are also required to have the completed physical form in hand before they will be allowed to practice or play.
