This Thursday and Friday, April 2 and 3, are the pick-up dates for the April distribution of the commodity food program, but the continued spread of coronavirus has resulted in a couple of changes that certified families need to know.

The Albany distribution will take place outside of the building in order to more easily allow recipients to observe social distancing.

“We will set the bags out back on a table,” said Melissa Hobbs at the Justice of the Peace office. “We are relying on the integrity and honesty of people to only take their bag.”

The Moran distribution already takes place outside of the building, so no change is needed.

The bags are expected to be smaller than normal.

“The food bank in Abilene doesn’t have many things to choose from, and the amounts we can get of each of the items is limited, Hobbs said. “We will go by this week and pick up what we can. There will not be any frozen goods this month.”

On Thursday, April 2, certified eligible families in Moran should pick up their monthly commodity food at Moran City Hall between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.

Albany families who have been certified eligible for the monthly food distribution program can pick up their commodity food Friday, April 3 outside the rear door of the JP office (the former county jail) from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
