Old Jail continues virtual activities

Old Jail Art Center is still closed to the public, with no plans to reopen as of press time this week.

Executive board members could possibly make that decision next month.

While patrons anticipate the reopening of the museum, they can look to OJAC social media platforms for ways to stay connected with art, history, and educational activities.

Each week new theme projects are posted with a different activity for each day.

This week, the theme is oceanic inspired with salt-painted sea creatures and mini sea globes. Both projects are put together in a free craft kit to pick up outside the front gates of the OJAC.

Thursday’s activity is the OJAC “tiny-tour.” Subscribers can visit the OJAC Facebook page at 3:30 p.m. for a 3-5 minute tour of Antonio Frasconi Seascapes. Included in the tour, viewers will receive insider information on the artist and his art from docents and staff members.

For teen to older audiences, the “#MuseumMixtape” for this week is a curated play list called “Ocean Blue.” The music is inspired by Seascapes from the OJAC collection.

Listening is available throughout the week on the OJAC Spotify Channel. The channel is linked on the museum’s Facebook, Instagram page, or website.

Those who get seasick may want to instead click on theojac.org Friday at 5:30 p.m. to gather information for a historical drive through Albany’s past.

The OJAC driving tour activity called “Albany Windshield History” posts a new topic biweekly honoring the history and heritage of Albany.
