Local and area residents are invited to participate in two upcoming events for adults at the Old Jail Art Center.

On Thursday, Jan. 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. is the OJAC’s regular Third Thursday workshop, which this month will feature “needle felting.”

The art form is defined as “a process which uses barbed needles to interlock wool fibers to form a more condensed material.”

Participants, who are invited to “bring a friend and a favorite bottle of wine,” will leave with a felted landscape.

Registration is $15 for OJAC members and $20 for non-members. The fee includes all needed supplies.

Register and pay the fee online by visiting theojac.org. Those interested can also call 325-762-2936.

Genealogy Workshop

Two days later, on Saturday, Jan. 18, OJAC staff members are planning a Genealogy Resources Workshop with special guest Deanna Ramsey.

The workshop will provide useful tips and sources for ancestor location and other genealogical endeavors, according to OJAC membership and development coordinator Susan Montgomery.

Following a lecture, registrants can receive one-on-one assistance in resource navigation such as the “Find A Grave” website.

Registrants should bring their own laptop, tablet, or mobile device.

The fee for participants is the same as the Third Thursday workshop – $15 for OJAC members and $20 for non-members – with a registration deadline of Friday, Jan. 17.

Light refreshments will be served afterwards.
