The Old Jail Art Museum is still temporarily closed, but the facility is not short on virtual activities to educate learners of all ages.

Each Thursday at 3:30 p.m., a five minute “OJAC tiny-tour” will be posted on the OJAC’s website and Facebook page. New tours will post each Thursday until June 25.

The virtual tour gives a sneak peak from the museum vault and galleries. Visitors also receive insider information from the OJAC’s docents and staff members.

Last week’s tiny-tour, presented and led by museum director and curator Patrick Kelly, focused on the collection work of Texas artist Ed Blackburn.

Special Funds

The OJAC recently participated in the “Abilene Gives” campaign. The Abilene Gives 2020 giving day took place from midnight May 5 until midnight May 6.

Campaigns like Abilene Gives help the OJAC maintain and expand free programs such as the “OJAC tiny-tour,”according to museum development and membership coordinator Susan Montgomery.

Montgomery said the OJAC likes to participate in Abilene Gives to gain exposure from Abilene and the surrounding area.

“This year is a little different,” Montgomery said. “The OJAC is aware of the circumstances of our members and did not want to push too hard. We are pleased with the outcome and appreciate all the donors that gave to the OJAC.”

Abilene Gives is an annual 24-hour online fundraising event to support local and area nonprofits.
