Visitors are invited to enjoy an afternoon lecture about “Law & Order in Depression Era Texas,” followed by light refreshments at the Old Jail Art Center’s Focus Lecture scheduled to take place from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 7.

Texas author Dr. Jody Ginn will be the speaker, recounting sensational headline news events from the 1930s.

“Dr. Ginn will weave a tale of corruption and undaunted courage in Depresssion Era Texas, including accounts of the Texas Rangers, Ma and Pa Ferguson, Jim Crow laws, and Bonnie and Clyde,” said OJAC membership and development coordinator Susan Montgomery.

In addition to authoring the book East Texas Troubles: The Allred Rangers Cleanup of San Augustine, Ginn was also featured as a historian for Netflix’s movie, The Highwayman, which follows the pursuit and subsequent death of Bonnie and Clyde.

Ginn’s book will be available for sale at the conclusion of the lecture.

The Focus Lecture series is an offering of presentations by artists, speakers, and historians on a variety of social, cultural, and historical topics ranging from the visual arts to community and Texas history.

The Old Jail is located at the corner of South Second Street and South Walnut Street, and the free lecture will be held in the museum’s Stasney Center for Education.
