Moran City Hall closed, services still available

Moran City Hall is now closed to the public in an effort to help “flatten the curve” of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the city’s essential services are still available.

“Folks can pay their water bill by depositing their payment in the drop-off box in the door, by signing up for direct deposit, or by mail,” said city worker Teresa King. “For emergency problems with water or sewer, folks can call 325-762-0643.”

King said residents can make an appointment if they need other assistance from the City of Moran.

Closet Angels in Moran has closed and will not be accepting any donations until May.

Local Churches

Church services are allowed as long as social distancing and other health precautions are observed, and at least two Moran congregations are gathering for Easter.

A handful of members from the Apostolic Gospel Church met last Sunday afternoon to drive through Moran praying and taking drive-by prayer requests. Later they stood outside the church door to sing songs of praise.

“We love praying for people,” said pastor Cynthia Tollett. “We’ll do it again next Sunday.”

Moran’s First Baptist Church will also meet on Easter Sunday.

FBC will have a “drive-in style” Resurrection Sunday service in the church’s parking lot at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 12.

“Everyone is welcome to come sit in your cars and listen to the message,” said member Dora Cook Leonard.

Community Garden

Jackie Martin plowed the Moran Community Garden last Wednesday, breaking up any big clumps left after the initial plowing last week.

“We will rototill to do the final prep, and then set out rows,” said land owner King. “Seeds – including beans, cucumbers, and squash – have been donated. Karen Bishop and I will plant those in the rows.”

King suggested that plants be put into the raised beds.

Cindy Huskey provided a sign, which should make it easy for participants to find the site of the community garden, which is at the corner of Putnam Road and Woodrow Avenue.

Everyone who helps with the garden project can share in the produce.
