MMPC to host Christmas feast
Local residents can have a traditional holiday meal on Christmas Day without going to the trouble of preparing and cleaning up.
Or paying for it.
Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church is offering its 16th annual Christmas Feast from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25. Meals are free to all comers.
For the second year in a row, meals will be available for carry-out or delivery only.
“Folks can call the church office (at 325-762-2038) and place orders with Sandy Ingalls if they want delivery,” co-organizer James Breeden said.
Meals for Vittles by Vehicles recipients will be delivered as usual. Breeden said it normally takes four or five drivers to complete deliveries around town.
Most food preparation will be done Christmas morning, though some items will be ready ahead of time.
“We’ve got a couple of guys smoking the turkeys and the hams, but most of it will be done that morning,” Breeden said. “We’ll get there early and get everything put on cooking and have it ready by 11 o’clock. We’ve got four or five families coming to help this year.”
This year’s menu includes traditional fare such as turkey, ham, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, and homemade desserts.
“You can just walk in and we’ll fix you a plate right there in front of you,” Breeden said.
A project of MMPC’s missions and evangelism team, the event began as a result of the group’s involvement with Vittles by Vehicles, which does not deliver on Christmas Day.
