Members of the Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church have held their annual church bazaar for over a century, and plans are underway for this year’s event, which will be held at the church on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The youth room doors will open to the public at 10:00 a.m. to allow shoppers time to select unique hand-made specialty items from the Country Store and the baked goods area.

Highlights of the Country Store this year include homemade chili, breads, cakes, and baked goods, locally canned produce and honey, unique Christmas wreaths, and tenderloin meal baskets.

Silent auction items include a mosaic cross created and donated by Faye Jean Hooker and a seated four-course meal for 10 prepared and served at the home of Landy and Lori Warren.

Serving of the traditional turkey and dressing meal starts at 11:00 a.m. in the MMPC fellowship hall.

The old-fashioned turkey dinner, complete with all the trimmings, is prepared by church members. The lunch menu includes turkey, dressing, giblet gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry relish, and assorted homemade pies.

Cost of the meal is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10. Takeout dinners will also be $10.

“The ladies of the Sallie Matthews Circle host the bazaar,” said coordinator Kalico Leech. “And every one in the church helps out by donating food and serving on various committees.”

Heading the Bazaar organizing committee this year are Leech, Melanie McCarthy, Daphne Holcomb, Liz Green, and Prissy Harvick.
