MMPC Bazaar plans take shape

Members of the Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church have held their annual church bazaar for over a century, and plans are underway for this year’s event, which will be held at the church on Saturday, Nov. 10.

The youth room doors will open to the public at 10:00 a.m. to allow shoppers time to select unique hand-made specialty items from the Country Store and the baked goods area.

Added to the event this year is a silent auction featuring a German shorthair hunting dog, a female puppy that is being donated by Jon and Joyce Gjerpe of Big Country Kennels.

The Country Store will continue to include cakes, pies, and other home-baked goods, but other sale items will include more of the popular tenderloin meal baskets that were debuted last year, along with holiday door wreaths and “anything homemade that fits in a jar,” according to church administrative assistant Kellie Sherwood.

More about the silent auction and the sale items will be available next week.

Serving of the traditional turkey and dressing meal starts at 11:00 a.m. in the MMPC fellowship hall.

The old-fashioned turkey dinner, complete with all the trimmings, is prepared by church members. The lunch menu includes turkey, dressing, giblet gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry relish, and homemade pies.

“The ladies of the Sallie Matthews Circle host the bazaar,” Sherwood explained, “but everyone in the church helps out by donating food and serving on various committees.”

Heading some of those committees this year are Liz Green, Prissy Harvick, Melanie McCarthy, Daphne Holcomb, and Kalico Leech.

Cost of the meal is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10. Takeout dinners will also be $10.
