MISD students place well at UIL event

Students at the Moran Independent School District will not have class this Friday, Feb. 1, and the staff will have a comp day.

The student holiday was added to correspond with the county stock show.

Six FFA students and one 4-H member from Moran have entered project animals in the show.

Junior High UIL

Sixteen Moran sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students competed in the District 20 junior high UIL academic meet on Jan. 16 at Gordon. 

Other schools in District 20 are Baird, Eula, Gordon, Ranger, and Strawn.

Results for those who placed in the top six middle school events include:

SIXTH GRADE

Chess Puzzle – 1st place team, Ellis Hise, Blake Boykin, Reagan Ethridge, 1. Ellis Hise, 3. Blake Boykin, 5. Reagan Ethridge.

Listening Skills – 3rd place team, AJ Hebel, Electra McGough, Ayden Moreno, 5. AJ Hebel. 

Ready Writing – 5. Reagan Ethridge.

SEVENTH GRADE

Dictionary Skills – 3rd place team, Brooke Orsak, Daniel O’Keefe, Terra Thompson.

Listening Skills – 1st place team, Brooke Orsak, Caleb York, Jaylen Ethridge, 3. Brooke Orsak.

Oral Reading – 4. Brooke Orsak. 

Spelling – 3rd place team, Joshua Lorenzana, Brooke Orsak, Daniel O’Keefe, 6. Joshua Lorenzana.

Social Studies – 3rd place team, Zech Henderson, Daniel O’Keefe, Terra Thompson, 6. Zech Henderson.

EIGHTH GRADE

The middle school academic meet was originally scheduled for Dec. 13, but was postponed due to inclement weather causing travel concerns.
