Not unexpectedly with the increasing spread of coronavirus, this week Texas Governor Greg Abbott officially extended the statewide closure of schools through May 4, and the Moran Independent School District will continue providing distance learning for its students during the interim.

Teachers at MISD are making lessons available online or by hard copy depending upon the needs of the various parents and students.

“Chrome books have been delivered to the families that requested them, and we have six more available,” said superintendent Danny Freeman. “Most students seem to be adapting to the new teaching methods and turning in their assignments. It’s a learning process, but for the most part it seems to be working.”

A hard copy of the assignments can be picked up at the school each week by Moran families that do not have internet access.

Freeman uses the school Suburban to deliver school supplies for students in Breckenridge, Cisco, and Albany once a week on Fridays. The usual school bus route pick up sites are used unless other arrangements are made.

“I’m in and out of the office, so if parents need to schedule changes, they can call my cell phone,” said Freeman.

The superintendent can be reached at 325-660-3244.

Teachers have been encouraged to work from home if possible.

Takeout breakfasts and lunches are being provided to the 10 families that have requested the meals. The workers sack up two breakfast and two lunch meals per participating student twice a week.
