MISD classes to resume Monday

Classes at the Moran Independent School District will resume at the normal time on Monday, March 16, after the week-long spring break vacation on March 9-13.
Cheer Tryouts
Practices for students trying out for next year’s cheer squads will take place from 4:05 to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16 and again on Wednesday, March 18.
Cheer, mascot, and twirler tryouts are scheduled to take place on Friday, March 20, starting immediately after school.
Parents are not allowed inside the gym during tryouts.
UIL Meet
The UIL District 20-A academic meet will be held in Eula on Thursday, March 26.
Other schools in the district with Moran and Eula are Baird, Gordon, Ranger, and Strawn.
Optional Days
Optional/required fifth days are on the MISD calendar for several upcoming Fridays, including March 27, April 24, and May 1, 15, and 22.
“Please remember that only students with excellent attendance, behavior, citizenship, and classroom performance are permitted to take these optional days off,” said superintendent Danny Freeman. “If you have not been contacted directly by your child’s teacher, then please send your student to school.”
Children who attend school on optional/required days are released at 12:00 noon.
“This is a great opportunity for all students to get specific, targeted academic instruction,” said Freeman. “In the event your child is not required to attend, but you would like to send them for academic extension services, then as always, feel free to send them to school.”
State Testing
According to the Texas Education Agency website, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests should be administered on the following schedule.
•April 7 – Grades 4 and 7 Writing; Grades 5 and 8 Math
•April 8 – Grades 5 and 8 Reading
•April 10 – STAAR make-up tests
•May 7 – Grade 8 Science
•May 8 – Grade 8 Social Studies
•May 12 – Grades 3, 4, 6, and 7 Math, Retest Grades 5 and 8 Math
•May 13 – Grades 3, 4, 6, and 7 Reading, Retest Grades 5 and 8 Reading
•May 14 – Grade 5 Science
•May 15 – STAAR make-up tests
End of Course (EOC) exams take place on April 7-8, and on May 5-8.
Holidays
The MISD campus will be closed over Easter including Good Friday, April 10, and Easter Monday, April 13.
Moran schools will also be closed on Monday, May 25 in honor of Memorial Day.
Graduation
School will release for the year on Friday, May 29, graduation day.
