Methodist Kids Club to begin

By Kathy Thomson

Kids Club Activities at First United Methodist Church are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The Kids Club is designed for fourth through seventh graders. Instructors teach the children life skills and offer fun activities, snacks, and the opportunity to learn the Word.

“Margaret Butler and Ellamae Walker are teaching the kids basic life skills like sewing and cooking,” said pastor Tim Trimble. “Ellamae is a great seamstress, and she started teaching them how to sew last year. It’s been a neat thing to watch, and it was so well received that they are doing it again this year.”

Trimble added that the Kids Club is open to anyone of that age who would like to come.

The church van is used to transport participating children from the elementary school to the church each Wednesday afternoon in time for the 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. program.

The bus will also go by and pick up students at secondary campus, said Butler.

Adult Meetings

The Methodist Church also has fellowship opportunities for adults, including a Wednesday night adult Bible study at 6:30 p.m., and the Life Recovery Group on Mondays at 7:00 p.m.

The Methodist men’s prayer group meets at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesdays. A men’s Bible study starts at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.

Jail Ministry

Members of the church also help lead a jail ministry that meets with prisoners at the local Law Enforcement Center at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month.

“We trade off with some other churches,” said Trimble. “Paul Johnston and Friendship Baptist take the first Tuesday of each month, Sonny McCauley and the Church of Christ have the second Tuesday, and Tom Chandler from Trinity Lutheran Church goes on the fourth Tuesday. If there is a fifth Tuesday, Brad McBee and First Christian Church members cover it.”
